🏃 Nov 12, 2025 · Signed up for the March city marathon after two beers and a motivational documentary. Current ability: 5K, slowly.
My first marathon: 16 weeks from the couch
😅 Nov 13, 2025 · Woke up, remembered what I did, checked the refund policy. Non-refundable. Okay then. We're doing this.
📋 Nov 2025 · Found a 16-week beginner plan: four runs a week, one long run that grows every Sunday. Printed it. Taped it to the fridge.
👟 Nov 22, 2025 · Got fitted for real running shoes at a specialty store. Learned my old shoes were half a size too small. Explains a lot.
❄️ Dec 1, 2025 · Week 1 of the plan. 5K three times, 8K Sunday long run. Everything hurts in a promising way.
🌧️ Dec 9, 2025 · First run in cold rain. Learned rule #1: there's no bad weather, only wrong layers. Bought a running jacket.
🎄 Dec 25, 2025 · Christmas morning 10K before the family woke up. Quietest, prettiest run of the year so far.
📈 Dec 28, 2025 · Week 4: long run hit 12K — the farthest I've ever run in my life. Celebrated with an unreasonable amount of pasta.
🦵 Jan 6, 2026 · First scare: knee twinge at kilometer 8. Took three days off, panicked quietly, started doing the strength exercises I'd been skipping.
💪 Jan 2026 · Strength work twice a week now — squats, lunges, calf raises. The knee stopped complaining. Lesson painfully learned.
⛄ Jan 18, 2026 · Long run 16K in falling snow. A stranger runner nodded at me like we shared a secret. We do.
🍌 Jan 25, 2026 · Week 8: discovered mid-run fueling. A banana at 14K is a religious experience nobody warns you about.
🎧 Feb 1, 2026 · Ditched podcasts for the long runs. Turns out two hours alone with your own thoughts is the actual sport.
📏 Feb 8, 2026 · 21.1K — half marathon distance, done on a random Sunday, alone. Cried a little at the end. Blamed the wind.
😴 Feb 2026 · New discoveries: I now sleep 8 hours, drink less, and check weather forecasts like a farmer. Running rewires you.
🧂 Feb 15, 2026 · Learned about electrolytes the hard way after a cramping 24K. Salt tabs added to the Sunday ritual.
🏔️ Feb 22, 2026 · Peak week: 30K long run. The last 5K was a negotiation between my brain and my legs. Brain won, barely.
😰 Feb 25, 2026 · The 30K left me wrecked for two days. Respect for the distance: fully installed.
📉 Mar 1, 2026 · Taper begins — running less, somehow feeling worse. 'Taper madness' is real and it lives in my calves.
🤒 Mar 8, 2026 · Phantom pains everywhere. Googled 'can you forget how to run' at 1am. Apparently this is all normal.
🍝 Mar 12, 2026 · Carb loading days. Officially eating pasta with medical justification. Race kit laid out on the floor like a flat runner.
🌅 Mar 15, 2026 · RACE DAY, 6am. Couldn't eat, ate anyway. Pinned the bib on crooked three times. Start line energy: electric.
🎉 Mar 15 · KM 0-21 · Went out too fast exactly like every article said not to. The crowd, the drums, a grandma with a 'RUN STRANGER' sign — impossible not to.
🧱 Mar 15 · KM 30 · Met The Wall. It's real. Walked through a water station, ate my emergency gel, made a deal with my legs: just to the next lamppost. Repeat.
❤️ Mar 15 · KM 40 · A spectator shouted my name off the bib. 'You've got this!' Total stranger. Whole new fuel source unlocked.
🏅 Mar 15, 2026 · FINISHED. 4:28:51. Medal, foil blanket, sitting on a curb eating a banana with tears in my eyes. The full experience.
🚶 Mar 16, 2026 · Stairs are my enemy. Walking backwards down them at the office. Wearing the medal to brunch. No regrets.
🔁 Apr 2026 · Three weeks later: signed up for the autumn marathon. Goal: sub-4:15. It was never about one race — turns out I'm a runner now.
